 Prof. Dr. Gülengül MERMER

Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences


Prof. Dr. Gülengül MERMER, was born in 1970 in the Şenkaya, Erzurum, Turkey. She graduated from Erzincan Vocational High School of Health in 1987 and began her professional career as a midwife in the village of Kümbetli, located in the central district of Kars, Turkey. She continued her service as a midwife until 1995, the same year she earned her undergraduate degree from the School of Nursing at Ege University. Between 1995 and 2003, she worked as a nurse in primary and secondary healthcare institutions affiliated with the Turkish Ministry of Health.

She completed her Master’s degree in 2001 in the Department of Public Health Nursing at the Institute of Health Sciences, Ege University. Subsequently, she earned her Ph.D. in 2010 from the Department of Public Health at Ege University Faculty of Medicine and, in the same year, completed the required additional doctoral coursework in the Department of Public Health Nursing at the Institute of Health Sciences, Ege University.

From the establishment of the institution until 2010, Prof. Dr. Mermer served as a lecturer in the Department of Midwifery at Ege University İzmir Atatürk School of Health. Between 2010 and 2019, she held the position of Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Nursing, Ege University, and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2019, a role she fulfilled until 2025. During her academic career, she conducted postdoctoral research at West Virginia University in the United States for four months in 2014 and was a visiting researcher at Azerbaijan Medical University for one month in 2023.

Prof. Dr. Gülengül MERMER has contributed extensively to the field through numerous research projects, academic articles, books, book chapters, and conference presentations. In 2025, she was appointed as a full-time Professor in the Department of Nursing at the Faculty of Health Sciences, Iğdır University.

Following her appointment to Iğdır University, Prof. Dr. Mermer assumed the role of Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences in June 2025 and currently continues to serve in this capacity
